Due to rules laid down by The Buddha, people afflicted with leprosy, boils, eczema, tuberculosis, epilepsy or any serious chronic or incurable disease cannot receive ordination. The same would be applicable to a person who is physically handicapped, feeble, or deformed.
If an applicant has tattoos visible when fully robed containing words or designs that are blatantly contrary to a bhikkhu's ideals, it would be wise to have them removed.

The applicant must have a keen desire to learn and practice in accordance with dhamma-vinaya as taught by the Buddha. As such an individual must seek ordination only after he has gained confidence or understanding in relation to the teachings of the Buddha.
